We took these photos on the drive from Charlottesville to DC last week, but I figured I'd wait to share them because they are so very much Virginia, and didn't belong in my post about the city.
I've talked before about Virginia's beauty. Its rolling mountains that seem to stretch on for miles, before fading into the soft, golden sun. Its vast expanses of gently rolling green pastures, lined by white picket fences and weeping willows that cause the sun to dance as it flickers through the leaves. The Japanese kudzu that turns the landscape into a lush jungle of green in the summertime, creating this tropical paradise that could easily be mistaken for some equatorial destination. In many ways, it's like summertime anywhere. Golden and green and full of life. But it's the only place I've ever lived where I'm always more excited for the drive than the destination. I hope I'll remember these Virginia drives forever.
(And yes, my title is a reference to one of the greatest Rolling Stones songs ever.)
