I recently completed a couple of blog designs that could not be more different from each other in aesthetics, but were both so much fun to create. These two projects are actually the first of my work that I've shared on my blog (aside from my own blog design), so I'm really excited to be sharing them with you today!
For her blog, Viva La Jussie, Justine wanted a design that was very simple, feminine, and soft. She really loved the idea of watercolor, soft mint and pale pink. I really wanted to create a look that was pared-back and airy, and would let her header be the focal point. Justine mentioned that she'd love doilies to be incorporated in some way, so I hand-drew the little pink accent design in the header as a twist on the cutouts in a doily. I absolutely love how the whole thing turned out:
For her blog, Billie Jean, Crystal wanted a design that was simple yet had punches of color and a very retro feel. She mentioned loving the idea of an image of a beehive updo, with bees flying inside. She also wanted an image that was more of logo, so she could use it to brand her Etsy shop. I hand-drew this logo for her and could not be happier with how it turned out. I wanted to give Crystal the retro feel that she requested, but with a very modern and fresh color palette and very clean lines.
I wanted the header to be the main focal point of the blog and didn't want anything else to compete, so kept the rest of the blog design very simple. The navigation bar was made up of black words in a clean, sans-serif font, but I added pop-up icons for a dash of color, when they are scrolled over.
Both designs were a blast to make, and Crystal's design really gave me a chance to step outside the simple, stark, pared-back aesthetic that I tend to gravitate towards and have fun with color and bold design. Both designs gave me a chance to incorporate hand-drawn elements, which I absolutely love to include whenever and wherever I get the chance.
If you're thinking about possibly getting a new look for your blog or business, I'd love to work with you! You can see more details about what I offer on my design page. I'm fully booked up with design work through the summer, but am taking bookings to start around mid-September.
Thanks so much for letting me share with you! Happy Monday :)
